Charlie Evans, Welsh Conservative candidate for Dwyfor Meirionnydd at the Senedd Election, has brandished financial advice leaflets given to Dwyfor Meirionnydd's residents in new council tax letters as "an insult".
The annual letter from Gwynedd Council setting out Council tax liabilities to each household was sent out last week. Enclosed in the letter were details of the Money Advice Service and the Citizens Advice Bureau.
Charlie Evans said, "The Plaid Cymru Gwynedd Council have chosen to put Council tax up by an above-inflation increase of 3.7%. They have also doubled the premium on additional homes which is leading to many homeowners telling me they will sell their properties. These are political choices- in neighbouring Anglesey Council they chose to reduce the initial proposed rise.
"I would usually welcome any offer of financial support- the Money Advice Service and Citizens Advice Bureau are fantastic organisations helping people in need. And I am sure it is a common practice across Wales to signpost them in Council tax letters. But this year, it is frankly an insult when the Council puts up hardworking people's taxes as we barely emerge from the pandemic.
"A Welsh Conservative Government will freeze Council Tax for the next two years, helping the people of Dwyfor Meirionnydd keep more money in their pockets. We will also build 100,000 homes across Wales, tackling the problem of affordable housing directly, not targeting second home owners."
