Charlie Evans, Welsh Conservative candidate for Llanelli in the General Election, has launched a survey on 20mph speed limits in the Llanelli constituency. The survey asks residents what roads they would like to see revert to the previous speed limit, prior to the Welsh Labour Government's blanket 20mph rollout last year.
The petition comes after Welsh Labour Transport Minister Ken Skates looks set to do a massive u-turn, despite the scheme's huge cost.
Charlie said, "Welsh Labour's blanket 20mph speed limits are the most unpopular policy decision since the start of devolution. It shows that Cardiff Bay is completely out-of-touch, and pursues pet projects over the people's priorities.
"Ken Skates is suggesting the Welsh Labour Government is about to perform a humiliating u-turn, but instead of taking responsibility for their decisions, they are going to pass the buck onto local authorities.
"So this petition is designed to tell Carmarthenshire County Council what roads in the Llanelli constituency need to have the 20mph speed limit scrapped. I really want local residents to have their say."
Residents living in communities such as Llanelli, Kidwelly, Burry Port, Cross Hands, Pontyberem, Pontyates, Ferryside, Pembrey and across the constituency are encouraged to get involved.
The petition will be sent to the Plaid Cymru-led Carmarthenshire County Council.
Charlie said, "Plaid Cymru also voted for these blanket speed limits. We can't let them off the hook for this. Therefore, if we can get as many people to complete my survey as possible, they will have no choice but to listen!"
